The Wado-Ryu syllabus taught at Stour Karate covers the following areas of martial arts:
Basics (Kihon) - The fundamentals at the heart of Wado-Ryu including stances, punches, kicks and blocks. Students demonstrate their mastery of Kihon techniques as part of their gradings.
Form (Kata) - Choreographed patterns of movement and techniques. Students perform Katas of increasing complexity as they progress through the grades. Katas can also be performed in competition.
Sparring (Kumite) - The practical application of the skills practised in Kihon and Kata. Kumite includes pairs work, combinations of attacks and defences performed with a partner, and free sparring, competing against an opponent (WKF Competition Rules).
